    🐠 Ornamental  Seagrasses. 🐠

What are these amazing seagrasses? 🀷

There is a description of seagrasses,πŸƒ which take a special place among sea plants.🌊 These marine plants perform the role of photosynthesis and are called primary producers. Also, different types of marine plants and plant-like can be found underwater. True ocean plants include flowering plantsπŸ€ (Seagrasses), while algae, phytoplankton (microscopic plant-like bacteria and protists), and sea flowers are not true plants.🌱

Seagrasses are flowering plants that normally occupy the soft bottom of the sea in subtidal areas (areas below the low tide mark.)🌱 They have roots and horizontal stems, which give rise to new shoots. There are more than 50 speciesπŸ€ of Seagrasses that can be found underwater.

Examples of Seagrasses include eelgrasses, turtle grasses, surf grasses, and manatee grasses.πŸ’Seagrasses typically create meadow effect on thefloor of the sea. Seagrasses meadow provides a nursery ground for fish and mollusks.πŸ™ In addition, Sea turtles and Sea cows graze on Seagrasses.☘️

Seagrasses are found in shallow and relatively warm water and it needs sunlight☀️ for photosynthesis. So, it needs shallow water.🌊 However, they flower despite living underwater their whole lives.

The benefits of seagrass systems are as follows.                                              πŸ‘‡
  • Help to protect the coastlines from storm and erosion damage.
  • Seagrasses provide habitat for ecosystems.
  • Seagrasses beds are important feeding grounds for thousands of species around the world, and they support divers food webs.
  • Seagrasses meadows can reduce the energy from waves, protecting shorelines from erosion and providing a buffer against storms.
  • By absorbing carbon dioxide from the water and also by storing organic carbon in their tissues seagrasses store huge amounts of carbon dioxide.
  • Capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests.
  • seagrasses are used as dietary supplement for natural health and beauty purposes.
Also, sea marsh grass is found in coastal salt marshes. Unlike seagrasses, marsh grasses are rooted in seawater but grow out of water. They also serve an important function as an excellent habitat for birds and other animals.

Seagrasses as a medicine ,πŸ‘€πŸ‘‡

In traditional medicine🩺, seagrass has been frequently used for therapeutic purposes like wound - healing.πŸ’Š As well as seagrases are well - utilized in traditional medicine for treatment as anti - emetic, intestinal parasites, indigestion, profuse menstruation, colds and bruises.
Seagrasses🌱 provide many important services to people as well, but many seagrasses meadows have been lost because of human activities.πŸ™‡ Because of this, due to the importance of seagrasses and the wider ecological importance they provide, the government named " (March 1st as World Seagrass Protection Day.)"πŸ€

πŸ’— Lowland Painting Arts. πŸ’—

πŸ§‘‍🎨 Lowland paintings of the Kandy period. πŸ§‘‍🎨 During the period of the Mahanuwara kingdoms, this art spread in the lowland areas of the island, specially in the southern and western provinces. As a result of the enthusiasm of Sangharaja Thero for his students to establish and maintain Buddhist temples in the lowlands, this art of painting spread to the lowlands. This art that spread in the pahatara areas has elements similar to the paintings of the uplands. But there are also notable differences. That is, although the style used, the techniques followed are almost the same, there are significant differences in the shape of the human figures, clothes, background colours, designs, background decorations and etc. In this way, some of the lowland temples where the tradition of painting in Kandy spread are mentioned below.πŸ’ Thelwaththa Rathpath Rajamaha Wiharaya Karagampitiya Subhodaramaya Dodanduwa Sailabimbaramaya Ambalangoda Sunandaramaya Mulkirigala Rajamaha Wiharaya Kelaniya...
