Hello guys, today I thought I would talk to you about Pitcher plant. (The Sinhala name here is Bandura.) In fact, this plant is a plant that is commonly found in rainforests and related areas and swamps in this country. This plant is a carnivorous plant that can be seen as shrubs and semi - shrubs. The natural behavior of pitcher plant was first clearly described by Herman Nicklaus Grimm, a Swedish physician. He called it ( planta mirabilis disti latoria), that is, (the plant of wonderful distillation.)

The pitcher plant is between (2cm - 50cm) long. There are many types of this plant. Commonly found in Sri Lanka is the species known by the botanical name (Nepenthes Distillatoria.), which is native to our country. The cap of the pitcher plant opens after it matures. The plant has a red - tinged pink hair, like part that helps attract insects. The liquid in this grain cintains enzymes suitable for digesting the parts of small animals such as insects.

These enzymes digest the animal that falls into the liquid and is absorbed by the plant. Thus the pitcher plant captures insects to make up for the lack of nitrogenous food it needs to grow. About one hundred and twenty varieties of Pitcher plant can be seen. Similarly, there are many hybrid varieties of pitcher plants, some of them are Lady Luck, Bill Bailey, Binky, Crimson Kiss, Suki, Queen Malani and others are special. Cultivation of Pitcher plant in a house is also an offense according to the Wildlife and Flora Ordinance.

The benefits of Pitcher plant are as follows. 👇

• According to Ayurvedic medicine, the solution in the leaves and stems of this plant is used to treat leg swelling, cystitis and whooping cough. 

• It is also said that Pitcher plant solution is used to eliminate sterility.

• Also, the villagers have used hats made from Pitcher plant vines when going to work in the fields.

• This plant is also used to control blood sugar levels. 

However, this plant is a rare creation of nature and this Pitcher plant juice can cure many diseases magically.
